The Society for Pentecostal Studies is proud to announce that Dr. Marcia Clarke (First Vice President) has been awarded a Teacher/Scholar, Vital Worship, Vital Preaching Grant by the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship. Teacher Scholar grants “aim to support scholarly research projects that show promise in strengthening Christian public worship practices and nurturing congregations and worshiping communities in the United States or Canada.”

“I am so grateful to the Calvin Institute for funding this project,” said Dr. Clarke. “Integral to the Society’s ‘More than a Song‘ 2025 annual meeting, the project aims to foster critical reflection on Pentecostal/charismatic worship among pastors, aiming to create a resource that equips leaders to guide congregations into richer, theologically grounded, Spirit-informed worship experiences.“This program is made possible through a Vital Worship, Vital Preaching Grant from the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship, Grand Rapids, Michigan, with funds provided by Lilly Endowment Inc.”

Thanks, must also go to the project team, Drs. Dara Delgado, Steven Felix-Jager, Mario Hood, Leah Payne, and Josh Samuel. The reviewers were “impressed with the proposal, which fosters understanding of Pentecostal/charismatic worship, benefiting academic study, and personal and congregational practice.”
